Mineral = min·er·al/ˈmin(ə)rəl/ • Noun:A solid inorganic substance of natural occurrence.Adjective:Of or denoting a mineral.Synonyms:noun.  ore • adjective.  Inorganic • Did you ever notice how TV commercials for breakfast cereal always mention vitamins and minerals? But when you think of minerals, food isn't the first thing that comes to mind. Aren't minerals something you find in the earth, like iron and quartz?

  3. Well, yes, but small amounts of some minerals are also in foods — for instance, red meat, such as beef, is a good source of iron.

  4. Question: What's the Most Common Mineral?

  5. Answer: This question has several answers, depending on what a mineral is and what part of the Earth we're talking about: • 1. The most common mineral of the Earth's continents—the world we spend our time in—is quartz, the mineral SiO2. Nearly all the sand in sandstone, in the deserts of the world and on its riverbeds and beaches is quartz. In granite and gneiss, which make up the majority of the deep continental crust, quartz is the most common mineral.

  7. ROCKS • Did you know that marble (mármol) forms from metamorphosed carbonate rock, most usually limestone (caliza)? • Did you know that basalt (basalto) is the most common rock on Earth? 

  8. The whole earth is made of rocks & minerals. Inside the earth there is a liquid core of molten rock and on the outside there is a hard crust. • The rocks you see around you – the mountains, canyons & riverbeds, are all made of minerals. A rock is made up of 2 or more minerals. 

  9. Rocks are always changing. Heat and pressure as well as weathering and erosion can change a rock's form, recycling it from one rock type to another. This process is called the rock cycle. • Geologists classify rocks according to their properties or characteristics such as colour, lustre, texture and hardness of its minerals. • The scientific study of rocks is called petrology from the Greek words petra meaning rock and logos meaning knowledge. Petrology is a kind of geology.
