  2. What are fingerprints? • Unmistakable form of identification • No two fingers share prints • Made up of highs and lows on the skin called dermal ridges and valleys

  3. How do fingerprint scanners work? • Finger is scanned • Digital “image” of the fingerprint is taken • The “image” is then subjected to an algorithm and compared to a stored image.

  4. Types of Fingerprint Scanners • Optical • Ultrasonic • Capacitance • Active • Passive

  5. Passive Capacitance Scanners • Finger and conductor plates generate capacitance. • Capacitance variance is used to map finite points of the print to generate the image.

  6. Applications • Security Systems • Access Doors • Safes • Computer Security • Banking • ???????
