  1. Cellular Injury & Adaption --Wang Weiwei

  2. Cellular Injury & Adaptation: • Normal cell is in a steady state “Homeostasis” • Change in Homeostasis due to stimuli - Injury • Response To Injury - Adaptation /Reversible / Irreversible

  3. Adaption • Atrophy(decrease in mass of the cells) • Hypertrophy(incerase in mass of cells) • Hyperplasia(increase in the number of cells) • Metaplasia(change in adult cell types)

  4. Injury Reversible: • Cell degeneration • Pathologic pigment • Pathologic calcification Irreversible: • Necrosis • Apoptosis

  5. Cell degeneration • Cell swelling • Fathy degeneration • Hyaline degeneration • Amyloidosis #

  6. Necrosis: • Coagulative -Infarction Caseous - Tuberculosis Gangrene - With infection • Liquifactive – Brain • Fibrinoid

  7. Apoptosis • Responsible for the programmedcell death • Different from necrosis ,especially coagulative necrosis ▼

  8. atrophy

  9. Heart hypertrophy in hypertension: Left Ventricle #

  10. Hyperplasia Scar ---the hyperplasia of the connective tissue #

  11. Muscle ischemic atrophy: Squamous metaplasis Replacement ofsquamous epithelium with columnar epithelium Intestinal metaplasis Replacement of gastric epotheliu with columnar and goblet cells of intestinal variety #

  12. The fatty liver is enlarged and has roud borders,a tense capsule, yellow or yelloeish red color. Many abnormal accumulation of fat within liver cells. #

  13. Hyaline degeneration of vessel wall The vascular lesion consis of a homogeneous, pink, hyaline thinckening of the walls of arteroiles. #

  14. Coagulative necrosis Coagulation necrosis are tapper, hoary dry and hard. The tip of taper pattern often point to portal of organ. #

  15. Extensive Caseous necrosisTuberculosis Caeation necrotic tissue Granulation Fibrous connective tissue #

  16. Gangrene - Amputated Diabetic foot

  17. Gangrene Intestine - Thrombosis.

  18. Stroke- Liquifactive necrosis

  19. Single cells or cluster of cells on H-E stained sections as roung or oval masses with intensely eosinophilic cytoplasm Apoptosis
