  2. Recycling…. We make a lot of waste here at Fernwood because not everyone recycles their bottles and caps when they are done with them. Why don’t we come up with a way to make sure everyone does recycle their caps and bottles.

  3. Recycling Bottles and Lids • We would like to make sure all plastics get recycled. • Even though there is already a trash can in the cafeteria for bottles not everyone puts their bottles there. • There is a bin for bottles but not a bin for the lids that are not recyclable. Why don’t WE make that change.

  4. What happens to the lids if they are not recycled? • If you do not recycle the lids to plastic bottles, they end up as litter or trash that end up in landfills or beaches. • After that they end up migrating into our rivers and oceans. • Then, birds and other marine creatures mistake these lids for food and choke on them and die.

  5. If the lids are recycled… • When you are helping the environment and you do recycle your lids they are melted down for new products. • Most of our new products are made from recycled products. • Like the company “Aveda.” We send the caps to them and they use them for Aveda packaging instead of flowing into our rivers and streams.

  6. How at Fernwood • We could put two different bins in the cafeteria: one for strictly bottles and one for strictly bottle caps • All the lids from that bin would then be collected and then put in Mrs.Oster’s room. She will then send them off to where they can be melted and made into new products. • Another option would be for US to even collect them and send them off to the corporation “Aveda” for them to use as Aveda packaging.

  7. Recycling Bottles • If you do recycle your bottles they could be made into other products for our use. • We make juice cartons, pot holders, animal bedding, egg cartons, and much more. • Why not go green and try to help the enviorment while you are helping yourself. • If WE don’t do something now, in 20-25 years we will not be drinking and using fresh water!

  8. So…. • These are my ideas on how to make Fernwood more environmental friendly. I think we could make it happen and produce LESS waste if we go along with this idea. We could also be saving all the marine life one bottle at a time here at Fernwood. RECYCLE!
