  2. Japan Center for Asian Historical Records (JACAR) : • Established on Nov.30, 2001 • Utilize the most advanced technology with the aim of providing anyone the means to peruse, print, and download image-data of records at anytime, from anywhere, at no charge.

  3. At the start of 2009, approximately 17,500,000 images had been made available to the public.(every year, 2,000,000~3,000,000 images) • By 2012, the goal is to have released 30,000,000 images. • Full-fledged digital archive • Digitalized images of historical records and database of cataloged informationaccessible through the Internet.

  4. Website Features • Digital archive accessible without user registration. Website, in addition, includes English, Chinese, and Korean interfaces (though search is only available in Japanese and English). • Documental materials (primarily government documents) date from the Meiji Era to the end of the Second World War.

  8. Number of web users has ranged daily from 2000 to 2500 people. (most recently) • Roughly eighty percent of high school teachers did not know JACAR. (according to an awareness survey) • Accordingly, from the end of last year, we are putting forth effort to demonstrate our presence to this demographic.
