The Florida Medical Association (FMA) is the main organization in opposition to this effort.
The FMA is against this bill because they believe 1) ARNPs do not have adequate training to make diagnoses and suggest treatment when it comes to controlled substances, 2) More people who can subscribe controlled substances could mean more people have access for abuse, and 3) there are no data suggesting there is a shortage of access to controlled substances.
The Florida Nurses Association, the Florida Nurse Practitioner Network, the Florida Association of Nurse Anesthetists, the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration and the Florida Hospital Association support ARNPs prescribing controlled substances.
