  2. History Lesson The Sears Tower stands tall on the Chicago Skyline. It’s located on Wacker Drive, which is in the heart of the West Loop. The Sears Tower is the tallest building in North America and it’s the third tallest building in the world. The Sears Tower is one of Chicago’s most prominent buildings, which is why every student should be able to identify important historical facts.

Sears Tower: Directions • Every student needs to visit the official Sears Tower website. http://www.searstower.com/ • After taking a tour of the website and reading through the Building Information, students will be asked a series of questions. • Students should focus their attention on the Building Information, it consists of the property profile, property amenities, property size and property location. Make sure to be aware of alternative links at the bottom of each page. For example, at the bottom of the property profile there is a link to Antenna Information. You may be asked several questions that can only be found in these links, so please be aware of them. • Once your finished exploring the website you can then start to work on the homework.

Sears Tower: Homework • When was the Sears Tower completed? • What is the official height of the Sears Tower? • The Sears Tower held the record for the world’s tallest building for 25 years until ________________ was built in 1998? • Which of the Sears Tower Antennas is larger than the other? • How many story’s is the Sears Tower? • The Sears Tower has many different amenities which include ____ different restaurants. • What is the name of one of Chicago’s finest business dining and meeting facilities? • The Sears Tower Antennas have different lighting for different holidays. Please name at least two different holidays, followed by the colors that the Sears Tower produces and the month that the holiday falls on. • The property has a ___-story lobby which welcomes visitors and tenants. The lobby was refurbished in 1992 by Destefano & Parnters. How much did this refurbishment cost? • The Sears Tower has a ____ -car system which is divided into three zones for efficient transportation.

  5. Sears Tower: Homework Part 2 This is the last section of our history lesson on the Sears Tower. Even though the Sears Tower is the tallest building in Chicago, it seems to be commonly confused with other buildings. In the next slide there are three pictures of prominent buildings in Chicago. Without getting to view the entire Chicago skyline, you will be asked to identify which building the Sears Tower is. Good Luck!

History Lesson Closing/Extra Credit After your finished completing the History Lesson, make sure to either print out thepowerpoint and record your answers or record your answers on a separate sheet of paper. Make sure that you followed all of the directions and wrote down the letter of the building that you thought was the Sears Tower. Don’t forget to complete the two other lessons. • Extra Credit: If you want to earn more points on the assignment you can do one of the following: • You can actually visit the Sears Tower with your family or friends. Take a picture of yourself in front of the tower and bring it to class. • On the previous slide, you had to decided which tower was the Sears Tower. If you can name any of the other previous towers, I will reward you 2 points of extra credit for every tower you name.
