  1. Geographical Investigation Done by : Liu Jia Ming 1O313 Darren Lim Zi Yang 1O307 Wong Lu Yong Jonavan 1O329 Teoh Jun Jie 1O325

  2. Our Roles • Group Leader: Liu Jia Ming • Researcher (Primary Data): Wong Lu Yong Jonavan • Researcher (Secondary Data): Darren Lim Zi Yang • Recorder: Teoh Jun Jie

  3. Our Objective • Investigate water consumption patterns of one household • Propose ways for the household to conserve water • Look into the effectiveness of the proposed water conservation methods

  4. Geographical Questions we Thought of • What do you use water for in your household? • Why is there a sharp increase in water consumption in March? • Where do you bathe, in the bathtub or in the shower? • How many times do you shower per day? • How long do you shower? • How many people are there is your house? • How often do you wash your clothes? • Do you switch off the tap? • Do you use water efficient appliances? • Do you switch off the water while soaping yourself?

  5. Evidences of our Fieldwork Type of House: HDB Flat Family Size: Five Refrigerator with 3 ticks Washing machine with 3 ticks

  6. Analysis of Fieldwork From the pictures, we found out that the household uses rather water conserving appliances. Thus, it cannot be one of the reasons why the water consumption is high.

  7. Interview with Jia Ming’s Father

  8. Interview with Jia Ming’s Maid

  9. Interview with Jia Ming

  10. Information we Gathered Father: • Rather water conserving • Reuses water to water the plants • Bathes for a few minutes and once a day • The sharp increase in water consumption in March was because Jia Ming’s grandparents came to stay

  11. Information we Gathered Maid: • Switches off water while soaping herself • Washes clothes one time a day • The sharp increase in water consumption in March was because Jia Ming’s grandparents came to stay

  12. Information we Gathered Jia Ming: • Leaves the water running while soaping himself • Uses a full flush all the time • Less water conserving habits

  13. Recommendations we Gave • Switch off the water while soaping yourself • Use a full flush only when passing out faeces • Add a bottle of stones inside the cistern so that less water will be used for flushing

  14. Follow-up Interview

  15. Recommendations Adopted Bottle of stones

  16. Conclusion Success • Family members adopted our recommendations • Recommendations worked • Successful in lowering the water consumption in the house Limitations • The project only lasted a few weeks and thus we could not monitor the water consumption pattern in the long run • the recommendations we gave were confined to only one household but effective water conservation requires the cooperation of ALL citizens
