  6. Stand fast in the faith • Στήκω (steko) to continue in your present state. Not retreating or surrendering. • In our spiritual warfare we must stand our ground.

  7. Stand fast in the faith • A call to stand fast • Gal. 5:1, in our liberty • Phil. 1:27, in on Spirit (unity) • Phil 4:1, in the Lord • 1 Thess. 3:8, as long as we live • 2 Thess. 2:15, without compromise

  8. Stand fast in the faith • “In the faith” • Is it God’s word? Jude 3, Rom. 1:17 • Or OUR faith? Rom. 1:17, 10:17, 1 John 5:4 • BOTH apply!

  9. Be brave • ἀνδρίζομαι (andritozomai) - to be brave or courageous • “Quit you like men” (KJV)“Act like men” (NASU) • Rather than running away, stand up and face the enemy!

  11. Be brave • We need courage • Maintaining purity in the Lord’s church – 1 Cor. 5:4-6, Titus 1:10-11, etc. • Facing our sins and weaknesses – James 5:16 • Dealing with difficulties

  12. Be brave • Rev. 21:8, “But the cowardly, unbelieving, …shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone.” • Phil. 1:27-28, “not in any way terrified by your adversaries…”

  13. Be strong • Κραταιόω (krataiou), to have confidence, especially in victory • Eph. 3:16, “that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man,”

  14. Be strong • Militarily, the confidence displayed in victory. The motivational speech before the battle (noting the cause, etc.) • In our spiritual battle, as we strive and win we gain confidence.

  15. Be strong • Rom. 5:3-4 • Eph. 6:10, “be strong in the Lord and the power of His might”cf. Phil. 4:13 • Yield not to temptation (#111),“each victory will help you some other to win. Fight manfully onward…”
