  1. Welcome ASL 1! • Written Doorbuster (10 min.) --- shhh!!!: • Complete your • TIME, OBJECT, SUBJECT, VERB lists from yesterday (you may work on other things once finished). Remember: at least 20 signs each under OBJECT and VERB (40 total), and as many as you can under TIME (2?) and SUBJECT. • Today: • 1. Written Doorbuster • 2. Vocabulary activity- test review • 3. Ticket Out

  2. Vocabulary Activity in signing teams • Preparation (10 min.) • 1.Select 5 Unit A signs you want to “re-teach” to the class. • 2. Write them on the paper displayed on the screen- once someone takes a sign, your team cannot select it (choose 5 different signs). • 3. Sign up for team presentation order (on board)- by a team name • 4. Look up any signs you need- or ask Dr. Weast • Presentations (20 min.) • 5. Present to the class! All team members will sign the 5 signs together- and the class copies the signs 

What is the handshape for the sign DORM? • 3. What is the palm orientation for the sign TIGER? • 4. What is the handshape for the sign FLOWER? • 5. What is the location for the sign MAD? • 6. What is the NMS for the sign NOT-YET? • 7. What is the movement for the sign NAME? • 8. What is the palm orientation for the sign FATHER? • 9. What is the location for the sign MOTHER? • 10. What is the handshape for the sign VOLUNTEER?

  6. Welcome ASL 3! Doorbuster (5 min.) • Hearing: sign about your “Deaf for a Day” experience to your group- what was the hardest part, what was the best part? • Deaf: let me know what you plan to sign about and when- sign up with me • Deaf for a Day Note: turn in your signed forms and reflection about the day by Tuesday. Your reflection: at least ½ page about your day, what you experienced, learned, frustrations or successes, etc.-handwritten.

  7. ASL 3- • Today: • 1. Doorbuster • 2. Vocabulary lists with Dr. Weast- ASL countries; debate signs; 1 other • 3. peer feedback and individual preparation; volunteer exams • 4. Ticket Out- (3o sec. video; ASL environment)

Reminder- from Sept. 12 (handout) --The 4 Parts of the conversation Entrance Interview: • Part 1- Introductions- you will sign: • Your Name (first and last) • Hearing/Deaf • Grade in school • What level in ASL • Part 2 (I will ask both of these questions) • Q:What are your goals for the future (work, college, etc.)? • Q: How do you plan to use your ASL? • Part 3- I will ask you 2 of these 4 questions  • Q: Describe your family, and where you live. (Tell me about your family) • Q: Describe two people in your family. • Q: What do you do on a typical school day (your routine)? • Q: What are 3 things you like or dislike about school or classes this year? • Part 4 -I will ask you 3 of these 5 questions : • Q: What is your opinion on tardy policy/open campus lunch/electronic policy (goal is to use at least 5 “debate” signs- explain your position) • Q:What are 3 interesting things about you? • Q:What do you like to do on your free time, for pleasure (hobbies, sports, etc.)? • Q: What is your favorite restaurant, and why? • Q: Do you want to visit (country)? Why? (Where do you want to go and why?)

Reminder--Rubric & Requirements for the ASL 1 & 2 skill level/review interview test • For the test grade, I will choose from a list of questions to ask you, and I will be looking for: • at least 3 sentences per response • Correct sign formation (5 parameters) • Vocabulary comprehension/production (do you remember the signs?) • ASL word order, not English, no mouthing, no Signed English markers, etc. • Rubric- 100% --------------------------------------------below 70% • Errors: none a few some several many • Answers: complete most some partly lacking • ASL: excellent good understandable unclear • For skill level- I will use the SLPI Rating Scale (handout), and we will set goals for you for the year!
