  1. How does the process of continental-contentical convergence work? • As two continental crusts collide, immense bending and folding occurs on the crust of the Earth. This would most likely form a fold mountain range. The crust tends to collapse and be pushed upward or sideways (Geology, 2011). For example, the Himalayas is found between India and China, the collision of India into Asia caused the Eurasian plate to crush and override the Indian plate. After the collision, the slow convergence of the two plates continues over millions of years and pushed up the Himalayas to their presentheight.

  2. What causes the tectonic plates to move? • Earth’s lithosphere floats on the asthenosphere. Tectonic plates are made up of rigid lithosphere and pushed sideways by convection currents (Hieb, 2011). Circulating convection currents takes place in the asthenospere and the circular movements are caused by the heatThe currents drag the plates along.

  3. When the mantle rocks near the radioactive core are heated, they become less dense than the cooler, upper mantle rocks. The warmers rocks rise while the cooler rocks sink. This causes currents within the mantle. When we boil water, the same process takes place.
