  2. ~Properties~ ~Magnesium has a melting point of 1244+/-3°C, boiling point of 1962° ~It’s a hard and brittle ~Manganese metal is ferromagnetic (only) after special treatment. ~There are four allotropic forms of manganese. The alpha form is stable at normal temperatures. ~The gamma form changes to the alpha form is soft flexible and easily cut at ordinary temperature. ~ Color: gray-white metal ~Is chemically reactive ~Slowly decomposes in cold water.

  3. ~Uses~ ~Used to form many important alloys. ~In steel, manganese makes better for rolling and giving qualities, strength, toughness, stiffness, wear resistance, hardness, and harden ability. ~ With aluminum and antimony, especially with small amounts of copper, it becomes highly ferromagnetic alloys. Manganese metal is ferromagnetic only after special treatment ~The dioxide is used in the preparation of oxygen, chlorine, and in drying black paints. ~The dioxide is used as a depolarizer in dry cells, and is used to "decolourise" glass that is colored green by pieces of iron. ~Manganese by itself colors glass an amethyst color, and is responsible for the color of true amethyst. ~In the utilisation of vitamin B1. ~The permanganate ion is a powerful oxidizing agent and is used in quantitative analysis and in medicine

  4. ~Manganese History and OtherFacts~ Discover by:Gahn, Scheele, & Bergman 1774. Word Origin: Latin magne: magnet, referring to the magnetic properties of pyrolusite; Italian manganese: corrupt form of magnesia
