Healthcare is Social • In May of 2011, the PEW Research Center released information from a national telephone survey on how Americans use the Internet for healthcare. • Key Findings • 74% of all adults use the internet • 59% of all adults have looked online for information about variety of health topics, including specific diseases and treatments • 13% have gone online to find others who have the same health concerns as theirs. • 62% of all Internet users and 46% of all adults use social network sites.

Healthcare is Social cont.… • 23% of social network site users have followed their friends’ personal health experiences or updates on the site. • 15% of social network site users have received health information on social networking sites. • 11% of social network site users have posted comments, queries, or information about health or medical matters. • 9% of social network site users have started or joined a health-related group on a social networking site.
