Super 3 Model (Grades K-2) • The Big 6/Super 3 Research model was developed to help students improve problem-solving and decision-making skills • Super 3 is written in age-appropriate language for students in Grade K-2 • In an effort to promote uniform language for research, DCS has adopted the Big 6 & Super 3 as a district-wide research model

Super 3 – Step 1: Plan Student Questions Planning Activities and Resources Discuss all assignment instructions Brainstorm Guiding Questions (Who/What/When/Where/Why/How) Use graphic organizers or KWL Charts Show students a grading rubric Make Your Own Rubricat www.rubistar.4teachers.org • What am I supposed to do? • What do I need to get the job done? • What do I want it to look like when I’m done? • Where will I find information?

  5. Super 3 – Step 2: Do Student Questions Doing Activities and Resources Begin to conduct research and collect books, websites, etc. Read materials, ask questions and take notes. Organize and use information to SOLVE a problem or CREATE a product to explain what you’ve learned Digital Resources: Popplet, NCWiseOWL, EduCreations • How can I do the job? • What can I use to find what I need? • How can I use what I have learned to make something that will help me solve a problem or explain what I have learned?

How Destiny can help with Step 2: Do • How to create a resource list • Helpful for students and grade level teammates • Log into Destiny / Catalog / Resource Lists / Add List • Teacher Usernames: first part of email • Teacher Passwords: ebooks • Search for a book under the Catalog Tab when results show simply click “Add to this list” • Destiny One Search and Websites Tab • Must be logged in as a teacher or student • Student usernames: firstname.lastname • Student passwords: ebooks

Super 3 – Step 3: Review Student Questions Review Activities and Resources Teacher made Self-assessment (Google Forms) Write a Reflection piece Peer Review (Google Forms) Questionnaire • Did I do what I was supposed to do? • Am I proud of what I’ve done? • Is there something else I should do before I say I’m done?
