  2. Drifting Continents • I will understand that the continents move and what causes them to move. Describe Wegener’s hypothesis (be sure to include the words landmass, Pangaea, and continent) Define continental drift What evidence was there to confirm Wegener’s theory? (hint: you should include 3 different pieces of information) Cut out the puzzle pieces from the YNT sheet. Put the puzzle together and paste it in your notebook. Why was Wegener’s theory rejected? Define mid-ocean ridge What radical idea did American geologist Harry Hess propose? “At the mid-ocean ridge…” Define sea-floor spreading What evidence is there to suggest that sea-floor spreading does indeed happen? (once again, we’re looking for 3 things here) Define subduction Draw and label the picture on page 38 that shows the effect of sea-floor spreading and subduction
