  4. Summer/Fall Registration • Summary of information to-date: • Registration packet to be mailed on October 8, 2012 and will assist you with checking your OneStart account and choosing Common Core Electives. • Updates to your Program • Plan-of-Study (POS) • Pre-requisite Course Sequencing List

  5. Your plan of study shows you what courses you have taken and projects courses that you should conider registering for. Details Placement Test Results. Provides science sequence. Informs those ready to apply for admission into Dental clinical program. New Science Repeat Policy Beginning This Fall 2013

  6. Placement Test Scores Last advisor who reviewed your record. Students who have not taken A 210 & P204 will transition to PHSL-P 261/P262 sequence . PLAN OF STUDY (POS) - BSDH Courses in blue are required prerequisites and will be calculated for admission into the clinical program as application gpa and science gpa Required clinical courses once accepted into the clinical program. Required courses due to Placement exam results.

  9. Policies that Affect Enrollment • Grade Replacement Policy • You may grade replace three courses or a maximum of 10 credit hours. The second (hopefully higher) grade will be calculated into your cumulative-grade-point-average. • You must request Student Services to process paperwork after you have received your grade and successfully completed the repeat. Email, call or stop in. • Registrar’s Office processes paperwork…can take up to 2 weeks for processing depending on time of year. • For more information refer to page 30 of the 2011-2013 IU South Bend Bulletin.

  10. Policies • You may withdraw from a course online (OneStart) through the 10th week of a semester. Always check the academic calendar. • You do not need faculty or advisor signature. • There is no refund. • You will receive a “W”. licationf withdrawing: • If receiving Financial Aid, withdrawing may impact Spring aid package. Always check with F.A. prior to dropping. • May place you “out-of-sequence” or push back your application date for admission into Dental Hygiene Program.

General Education Electives COMMON CORE ELECTIVES (190 & 390/399) • Please check the faculty General Education Website at: https://www.iusb.edu/general-educ/for latest listing of courses offered. • -Remember, one of your common core electives must be at a 390/399 level. Your Common Core Electives are N, T and B 190 – one of which must be a 390 or 399 – Junior-level course. • All other General Education descriptions including approved courses can be found on pages 35 - 40 of the current IU South Bend 2011-2013 Bulletin. Science Sequence • For the BS Dental Hygiene degree program, the science sequencing of courses remains the same: • Completion of MATH-M 107, College Algebra or Math Placement Test of Level 4. • CHEM-C 101/121, Elementary Chemistry I with lab. • Exception: if you graduated HS within past 3 years and had one-full year of HS Chemistry (not integrated CHEM/Physics) and you can remember basic principles, you may bypass CHEM-C 101/121 and move to… • CHEM-C 102, Elementary Chemistry II, 3 cr. hrs. • CHEM-C 102 can be taken concurrently with ANAT A210. ANAT-A 210 and CHEM-C102 are prerequisites for PHSL-P 204 and MICRO-M 250/M255. (A210 prerequisite for P204-- new Biology policy to be implemented beginning with Sp’10.) PHSL-P204 and MICR-M250/M255 may be taken concurrently. • Beginning in Fall 2013, A&P Science requirements change to PHSL-P 261 and PHSL-P262.

  14. Science Sequence continued… • CHEM-C102 is required for both the BS degree program. The Biology Department added this prerequisite to MICR-M250/M255 in Fall 2008 for all Pre-Dental Hygiene majors. • If you have completed CHEM-C 102, to request a seat in MICR-M250/M255 you need to contact Ms. Angela Huff, Biology/Chemistry Secretary, beginning October 22nd. Her office is located in NS 137. Refer to registration packet letter. • Students currently enrolled in CHEM-C 102 will not be granted permission for a seat in MICR-M 250/M255 unless they have a grade of B in the course, beginning on October 29th . For students who have grades less than a B, they must wait until the end of the semester and earn a final grade of C or better. Make sure you know your class numbers prior to seeking permission. • BSDH students must take MICR-M250/M255. If you enroll in M250/M255 and need to withdraw from M250, you must withdraw from both.

  15. Admission into Dental Hygiene is Competitive… • Mrs. Kristyn Quimby, Program Director, is happy to meet with you and review the admission process and technical standards required of a Dental Hygienist.

  16. Registration begins October 29 – November 2, 2012. Open registration begins the week of November 5th for new students to IU South Bend. Are you ready to register for Spring 2013?

  17. Schedule of Classes • Look at your Plan of Study (POS) and determine list of courses you wish to enroll for Spring 2013. REFER TO REGISTRATION MAILING. • Check for any holds which might prohibit registration. Take care of them! • Choose your classes (use the blank scheduling sheet we provided in the mailing). • Make sure you have the class number so you can set-up your OneStart registration shopping cart. Access to Schedule of Classes can be accessed via your OneStart account.

  18. Checking your OneStart Account Look for Negative Service Indicators “holds” which might prohibit registration. All “holds” must be taken care 24-48 hours prior to registration.

  19. Summary • Check OneStart Account for the following: • Holds: Financial, Immunization, Advising. Contact the appropriate office for resolution. • Check for your registration appointment. This is your first opportunity to register for classes online. Will provide time and date when your ability to register is active. • See Student Services with your questions. You can also email saambler@iusb.eduor jgilroy@iusb.edu • Set-up your shopping cart with proposed classes. • Register on-time. This will insure first and best opportunity to secure seats in the courses you have selected. • If you physically do not know how to register, choose your classes and on your time/date go to the Gateway Information Center, Main Lobby of the Administration Bldg. and they can assist you with inputting your class selections into the computer.
