  2. THINGS CHILDREN SHOULD KNOW (Part I) I. “YOU GET WHAT YOU GET AND YOU DON’T PITCH A FIT.” II. “BE GIVING, CHARITABLE, MERCIFUL.” III. “DON’T PUT YOURSELF FIRST.” IV. “DON’T BE A PUSHOVER.”

  3. THINGS CHILDREN SHOULD KNOW (Part II) V. “HOW ARE YOU GOING TO BEHAVE TODAY?” a. Daily commitment “And he said unto all, If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” (Luke 9:23 ) b. Set an example (Matt. 5:13-16). c. Remember who you are!

  4. THINGS CHILDREN SHOULD KNOW VI. “DON’T TATTLE.” a. Aim to get another in trouble over something that happened 2 days ago (Eph. 4:26-27; Lev. 19:16). b. Aim to avoid getting in trouble by directing attention elsewhere (Gen. 3:11-13, 16-17). c. Don’t take to heart everything you hear (Eccl. 7:21-22; Prov. 14:15). d. Don’t say everything that comes to mind. (Prov. 29:11; 12:23)

  5. THINGS CHILDREN SHOULD KNOW VII. “DON’T MAKE EXCUSES. OBEY IMMEDIATELY.” a. “But what about so-n-so”? (Jn 21:18-22) b. When told to clean room, keeps playing, reading, decides right then to put on socks, etc. (Luke 14:16-24). c. Don’t complain – “But it wasn’t mine!” “Do I have too?” “That’s too much!” (dishes, laundry, room, etc.) (Luke 12:35-38; Phil. 2:12-16; 1 Cor. 10:10)

  6. THINGS CHILDREN SHOULD KNOW VIII. “ALWAYS TELL THE TRUTH EVEN IF YOU GET IN TROUBLE.” a. Don’t exaggerate. “The sluggard saith, There is a lion without: I shall be slain in the streets.” (Prov. 22:13) b. Don’t try to hide sin, admit when you are wrong: “He that covereth his transgressions shall not prosper: But whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall obtain mercy.” (Pr 28:13) c. Don’t try to justify or dress up bad behavior (Prov. 26:18-19).

THINGS CHILDREN SHOULD KNOW CONCLUSION: We are all children before God… Eph 5:1 Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children; 2 and walk in love, even as Christ also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for an odor of a sweet smell. Therefore, let us behave as beloved children!
