  2. 翻译教学实例 • 北京已经成功地获得2008年奥运会的举办权。“绿色奥运、科技奥运、人文奥运”“绿色奥运、科技奥运、人文奥运”的宗旨，必将给北京带来更大的变化，进一步推动中国体育运动和世界奥林匹克运动的发展，进一步加强中国人民和世界人民的友好交流。 • With the successful bid for the Summer Olympic Games in 2008, Beijing will have greater changes and opportunities. The tenet of “Green Olympic, High-tech Olympic, and People’s Olympic” will definitely promote the development of China’s athletic sports and the world’s Olympic Games, strengthening the friendly communication between Chinese people and peoples of the world.

  3. 小字眼, 大内涵 汉英翻译最棘手的往往不一定是什么生僻罕见的词语，而是一些看似简单但蕴意深远的小字眼。 “绿色奥运、科技奥运、人文奥运”便是典型一例。 学生通过网络、参考资料查到的各种译法不下十几种：Green Olympics, Technology Olympics and Cultural Olympics, Green Olympics, Sci-Tech Olympics, and Humanistic Olympics, Green Olympics, Technology-empowered Olympics and People’s Olympics, Green Olympics, Hi-tech Olympics and human-oriented Olympics, Green Olympics, Technology-geared Olympics and humanized Olympic, Ecology-friendly Olympics, High-tech-sophisticated Olympics and Humanism Olympics…,etc.

  5. 歧义与繁冗 • 令人感到费解： • 奥运五环明明是红、黄、蓝、黑、绿五种不同颜色， • 怎么能说成是Green Olympics呢？

  7. 歧义与语境 • Math Olympics（数学奥林匹克）、IT Olympics（大型信息技术交流会）那样，完全可以理解为“高科技奥林匹克”。 • 但考虑到2008北京奥运会这样的特定语境，歧义自然就消除了。而且作为一种口号，应当尽量简洁有力，就像“同一个世界，同一个梦想”（One world, one dream）那样言简意赅，因此笔者认为“科技奥运”译为Hi-tech Olympics为好。

  9. 人文奥运的基本内涵 人文奥运的基本内涵包括： 传播现代奥林匹克精神 展示中华民族灿烂文化 推动东西方文化的交流合作 促进人与自然、人与社会、人的精神与体魄的和谐发展 充分体现‘参与奥运、得益奥运’ 充分体现‘中国风格、人文风采、时代风貌、广泛参与’的特点 －－北京日报2005年2月24日

  10. 可行解决方案 最好的解决办法是采用音译：Renwen Olympics，然后对Renwen加以必要的注释。 不过，这样一来，这一口号的感召力便会大打折扣：因为音译这种对于书面语来说往往行之有效的翻译方法在这里显然行不通——英语中压根儿就没有汉语拼音Ren这样一种读音。为了便于全世界英语读者／听众的接受，我们可以考虑简化 “人文”二字，在“人”与“文”之间做出取舍。People’s Olympics和Cultural Olympics哪一种译法较好？

  11. 突出以人为本 因为相对而言，突出一个“人”字比突出“文”字更符合奥林匹克精神，且容易上口，与Green Olympics, Hi-tech Olympics形成一种层进（Climax）的修辞力度，也便于听众接受。事实上，北京奥组委(BOCOG)的官方网站所采用的就是Green Olympics, High-tech Olympics, People's Olympics这种译文。至于Humanistic Olympics, Human-oriented Olympics等译法，从词源上考虑，human（人类／的, 人性／的）一词容易与animal形成相互联系对照，故不宜采用。

  12. 结论 一言以蔽之，“绿色奥运、科技奥运、人文奥运”要是用于方针政策宣传、学术理论探讨等作为书面语翻译，译为Environment-friendly Olympics, Technology-empowered Olympics and culture-enriched Olympics为好，因为这样的文字表达清晰，结构严谨；但是作为一个宣传口号，还是译作Green Olympics, Hi-tech Olympics and People’s Olympics为宜——这种译法言简意赅，简洁有力，感召性强，且符合英语口语的习惯表达法。
