  1. The Facebook Project: • American Presidents • Instructions: • Using the template below, create a hypothetical Facebook page for an American President. • The final product should reflect the personality, ideas, conflicts, and achievements of this President. Show what sorts of people were in their life, including a variety of perspectives. Of course the page can have funny things in it, so long as it stays rated PG (no profanity or inappropriate content) and so long as you’re primary emphasis is on historically meaningful details. Also, if your president was likely to say or think things that are socially unacceptable today (like racism or sexism), it is okay for you to allude to those ideas if you can do it tastefully without glorifying any of those things yourself. • Here are some details to include: • A photo of your president. • Personal information about them and their interests (as best as you research and/or reasonably speculate). This can be a mix of things they actually liked in reality perhaps with current things you think they would enjoy based on what we know of their beliefs, behavior, and personality. • At least four “wall posts” from other real historical figures that each represent a different facet of your individual’s life. Perhaps comments that reflect change over time. The “newer” posts should be toward the top. Make sure the details of each post are accurate: a historically logical date, what “network” would they be part of in parenthesis, and a profile picture. These comments should be based on things that are historically true and relevant to your person. • Include six people in the “friends” box—simply pictures and names. Don’t have any repeats from the “wall” posts. They should be relevant to your person’s life. In your summary page you will explain who they are. • List at least six hypothetical groups that your person would be a member of on Facebook. Some can be funny, while others are more historical. For those who don’t know, a “group” on Facebook is a separate page on that users can create and invite people to dealing with a various topic of interest, inside jokes, etc. • Create an advertisement in the side column. Have it be something related to the ordinary lives of people in the place and time of your person. • Remember to save your work occasionally. When you’re all done, delete the instructions slides and print off the part that is your Facebook page, in color, please. • Write a summary page in which you show off the details of what you’ve created. How do the details you included fit into the bigger picture of history? What do the things in your page mean? What did you find out about your person? For example, why did the people say what they did in their wall posts? Who are the people in the friends list and how are they relevant to this person’s life. • 9. All information should be cited in MLA format. You will turn in your Facebook page, summary, and a works cited page on Friday, March 23. • 10. Be prepared to share with the class!
