  1. Good Afternoon! Agenda Make sure Activities 77-80 are complete in your journal Laws of Motion posters turned in Inertia around a curve posters with partner or individual completed & turned in! • Set up Act. 81 • Introduction of Activity 81 • Activity 81 • Analysis Questions

  2. Activity 81: The Net Force Challenge • Date: 3/14/14 • Job: • Challenge Question: • Getting Started: What is a net force?

  3. GS:What is Net Force? • A- an overall effect of all acting forces on an object • B-effect of a force • C-balanced forces • D-direction on which the force is traveling • E-a force equals 0 • F-a net that uses force • G-balanced forces • H-

  4. Net Force • In many situations, including driving, more than one force is acting on an object. • The combination of all forces acting on an object is the net force. • Net force determines whether, and by how much an object’s motion is changed. • F= ma • F can represent a net force

  5. Example of Balanced Force • G-tug of war • F-airplane going straight • E-tug og war • D-roller coaster • C-cars going same speed & crashing • B-see saw • A- car with constant rate going straight

  6. Example of balanced force • E- a car that drives a constant speed on a straight road • F-when someone skateboards on a flat surface • G-train traveling 45mph on a straight track • H-walking on a flat surface • D-riding a bike on a flat road • C-tug o war • B-car • A-a golf ball rolls at a constant speed on a flat surface

  7. Example of Unbalanced Force • F-jumping with the jumprope See saw • A-riding a unicycle • E- • B-riding a bike • G-skateboarding • D-bumper cars

  8. Force Diagram • It shows an object or a system as a simple square and is labeled only with the forces applied to it. • Look at the diagram on the board.

  9. Introduction • Pg. E-37 • Glossary • Balanced Force • Unbalanced Forces

  10. Balanced Force • It shares an equal weight and there is a net force of “0” on the object.

  11. Unbalanced Forces • Does not share an equal weight since the net force has changed and is acting on an object.

  12. Procedure • Part A: Balanced Forces 1.Pull the force meter to 1.0 N 2.Draw your diagram and label balanced forces • Part B: Unbalanced Forces • 1. Pull one side to 1.5 • N then the other side to 1.0 N • 2. Draw your diagram and label unbalanced forces • Write an explanation of what happened Title: Non Zero Net Force

  13. Activity 81 • Part C: The Challenge • Complete steps #8-12 • Draw a diagram write title, label, and explain what happened • Complete Exit Slip

  14. Exit Slip Homework • Date: 3/14/14 • Act. 81- Answer Challenge Question • Analysis #1-5 pg. E-40 • Inertia around a curve poster • Extra Credit- Draw a picture or create a video, send me a video about braking distance
