What is Financial Aid?

  • Financial Aid is any source of money that helps a student pay for college expenses and investments.

  • Types of financial aid include:

    • Grants

    • Scholarships

    • Loans

    • Work Study

  • Free Application for Federal Student Aid www.fafsa.gov

  • To complete the FAFSA, you will need:

    • Your social security number.

    • Your alien registration number, if not a US citizen.

    • You and/or your parent’s most recent federal income tax returns, W-2’s, and other records of money earned.

    • Records of untaxed income (if applicable)

    • A Federal Student Aid PIN to sign electronically.

    • Determined by estimated family contribution (EFC)

    • Limited to 6 full-time years of education for a lifetime.

  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant

  • Federal Work-Study provides part-time jobs for students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay for college.

    • Student must be financial aid eligible as determined by the FAFSA.

    • Flexible work schedule.

    • On campus.

    • Doesn’t count as taxable income.

  • Complete the FAFSA as soon as tax information for the previous year is available.

  • The earlier a student completes their FAFSA the more likely they will qualify for additional grants and scholarships.
