  2. Step 1 – Prevent Risks • Look where you’re going • Anticipate hazards • Rehearse safety measures with your group • Document your plans in group’s minutes

  3. If it’s best faith effort If it’s chartered 4-H education If it’s in your job description If it’s something WSU does Know That WSU Covers You

  4. Step 3 Know Your business is developing youth Not chauffeuring Not training animals Not providing facilities Not endorsing products or services

  5. Your job is building people Even the ones that irritate you Regardless of: • Race • status • Physical,emotional, or mental condition • religion Reach out . Invite. Include. Accommodate

  6. Step 4. Insure with AIL • Don’t leave home without it! • Choose: ¢ per day • $ per year • Medical coverage for accidents on 4-H time • comforting • Primary insurance

  7. Step 5Check with your personal insurance agent Cover your tail

  8. When you use a facility • Borrow it or rent it • Secure it • Leave it in better condition than you found it • Never sign a 3rd party agreement

  11. 4-H monies • Only USDA Extension chartered 4-H group • In a bank account • Use a tax I.d. number • group treasurer keeps books & writes checks • Funds for group’s educational purposes • Audited annually by County 4-H Council

  13. If it feels too risky • Call Extension office • We’ll help you think: Safety comes first • Downsize • Relocate • Increase supervision • Rehearse members

  14. Protect Children • Screen helpers • Minimize underage/unenrolled children • Know guardian status • Visit with guardian • I.d.vulnerabilities • I.d. limitations • I.d. health challenges Report Suspected abuse to Extension Agent
