  1. Meet the teacher! Hello Fabulous Fourth Graders! My name is Mrs. Cox, and I will be your 4th grade teacher this year at Cedar Lane Elementary. This is my 30thyear teaching, and my 15th year at Cedar Lane. Over the years, I have taught elementary and middle school, but I think 4th grade at Cedar Lane is truly a great place to be! I graduated from Clemson University earning a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and a Teaching License for K-8 grades. I also earned a Masters of Education in Teaching Students with Learning Disabilities from George Mason University. My teaching philosophy incorporates active student engagement to increase learning and to cultivate a desire in students for life long learning in the 21st century. I was born in South Carolina, and grew up in a small, rural town where my dad owned a farm machinery business. After graduating from college I wanted to live close to a bigger city, so I moved to Fairfax, Virginia. It wasn’t long after I got here that I met Mr. Cox and I decided to stay  It also wasn’t long before I realized how much I missed the open spaces and farmland, so in 1989, we moved to Ashburn Village. Even though Loudoun County is more crowded today, it still offers the beauty and sense of community that I love. When I am not planning fun things for us to do at school, I like visiting museums and attending concerts in D.C., gardening, and spending time with family and friends. You will also find that I am passionate about education and want our classroom to be both challenging and nurturing. I can’t wait to meet you and your family, and work together this year in 4th grade! Hope to see you on Friday morning, August 29, and your folks Tuesday, August 26 at 6:30 pm.
