Afghanistan Technical Vocational Institute • Assessment 8April13 • ATVI has accomplished much to establish vocational training for 1500 student body since founding in 2007 with USD$1.8 million donation. • Toured metal fabrication, automotive mechanics, soil and seed classroom, construction materials testing laboratory and grape trellis demonstration. • Discussed with founder Amb. (ret.) Sardar Roshan the possibility of using ATVI materials testing laboratory for Quality Control testing of TF Centurion project concrete trellis posts, but ATVI not performing testing services yet. ATVI showing interest to develop concrete post testing service. • Take Aways • Horticulture students were enthusiastic to take grape trellis technology back to family farms. • ATVI is currently only able to take Horticulture students to Badam Bagh farm once per semester. • Students were not aware of agricultural supplier Helal Group and would be excited to tour Helal Company if we can help arrange, which we will try to do. (Staff mentioned concern about security on such a student field trip in Kabul City.) • ATVI students would benefit from a simple cold-frame to learn production methods. 8-April-13
