  5. Application: God trains those he calls - Hebrews 12:5-11

  6. My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.” Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline —then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live!

  7. They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. Hebrews 12:5-12

  8. Application: God trains those he calls - Hebrews 12:5-11 • He loves you as you are, but he loves you too much, to let you stay as you are. • He uses events or people to change us • Maybe it’s not so much about you fixing your circumstances as your circumstances fixing you!

  9. V1. God moves in a mysterious wayHis wonders to perform; He plants his footsteps in the sea And rides upon the storm. V2. Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,But trust him for his grace;Behind a frowning providenceFaith sees a smiling face.

  10. V3. Blind unbelief is sure to errAnd scan his work in vain;God is his own interpreter, And he will make it plain. V4. You fearful saints, fresh courage take; The clouds you so much dreadAre big with mercy and will breakIn blessing on your head. William Cowper
