  1. GCSE LANGUAGES MARIA FIDELIS CONVENT SCHOOL FCJ LANGUAGES AT KEYSTAGE 4

  2. You will be examined in each of the four skills. • Listening • Speaking • Reading • Writing

  3. Listening and Reading These skills will be assessed at the end of year 11. Each skill is 20% of the final mark. You can be entered for Foundation or Higher tier. In order to gain grades A* to C, you will need to take the Higher tier for each skill.

  4. Speaking Your ability to speak the language will be assessed in school and marked by your teacher. This skill is 30% of the final examination mark. A minimum of two speaking assessments will be set and recorded over the two years.

  5. Writing Your ability to write the language will be assessed in school under close supervision. This is called ‘Controlled Assessment’ This skill is 30% of the final examination mark. A minimum of two pieces of writing must be submitted.

  6. In Speaking and Writing, you will NOT BE ENTERED for Foundation or Higher Tier. The Tier will be assessed by the Examination Board (AQA) and will depend on the quality of the work you submit. More detail about how you prepare yourself for these tasks will be given to you by your teacher before you complete the work

  10. Home and Environment • Home and Local Area • Special occasions celebrated in the home • Home, town, neighbourhood and region, where it is and what it is like • Environment • Current problems facing the planet • Being environmentally friendly within the home and local area

  11. Work and Education • School/College and Future Plans • What school/college is like • Pressures and problems • Current and Future Jobs • Looking for and getting a job • Advantages and disadvantages of different jobs

  12. Resources • You will have access an online textbook which you will be able to access in school and at home. • You will also be able to work, using online material to support you. • Both of these resources can be accessed from www.kerboodle.com • Easy access to these and other useful resources can be found on the school’s website at www.mariafidelis.camden.sch.uk
