  2. What is Quality? This is an expression of the degree of perceived satisfaction by the customer. • Entrepreneurs need to make sure that they keep their promises hence to maintain both “conformance’ and ‘performance’ quality. • Promise ‘making’ should match with ‘keeping’. Espirit de corp do help this (i.e SHARED SENSE OF MISSION)

  3. TOTAL QUALITY MGT (TQM) • This ought to be everyone’s job • System approach is the way forward (Synergy) • It is all about perception hence subjective • Quality is very dynamic and will never be static

  4. TQM - Definition ‘is a people focused management system that aims at continuous increase in customer service at continuously lower real costs’

  5. Make TQM a success! • Entrepreneurs need to be customer-driven • Being effective and efficient • Being innovative continuously (Make market research and work on feedback)

  6. The nature of TQM • Core Values (Leadership, Participation, innovation, Customization, etc) • Shared sense of mission (Espirit De corp) • Top Management Support • Strategic planning & Implementation

  7. TQM – Analytical steps • Define the problem • Formulate the hypothesis (Assumption) • Test the Hypothesis • Introduce the necessary changes • Evaluate the results • Make any further modification if needed (innovation)

  8. Foci of TQM • Customer service focus • Cycle Time focus (Duration to complete the task) • Employee focus (Internal Marketing) • Continuous improvement focus

IMPORTANCE OF TQM Finally • Enhanced ‘Popular participation’ efforts • The focus is on the quality of the product (Physical of service) • Continuous innovation becomes part of organizational culture • Quality becomes part of mission • Employees will have an opportunity to improve talents (Recall the ZZK case)

  10. Conclusion • TQM ought to be everyone’s job in the organization (By Daniel Beckam) • The entrepreneur needs to appreciate the concept of TQM • Employees should be motivated to work towards quality improvement on a continuous basis.
