  1. Leo’s note 1 of slide#5 of 2011/07/01 ftp://aden.princeton.edu/pub/lyo/lyo/research_group/alu/Alu_20110701_lyo.pptx : try to check the lower-left plot (D) of slide#5 using max growth rate averaged for contour < 100days in slide#25 of alu_20110627.pptx in the upper 300m of the water column; old new The mean (18-25N, 0-300m) of the maximun growth rate within 100 days and upper 300 m. The values are now 10 times larger and max shifts to March instead of February

  2. 2. This slide is for 135-140E averaged. It gives very different red-curve (D) than Qiu’s solid curve (E). So replot “(D)” using new runs for 140-145; 145-150; 150-155; 155-160; … etc.; Two difficulties: Eke calculation is not done yet Hard to find a universal judgment to quantify the movement of NEC subsurface extension. Still Looking for.

  3. 3. Do that yz-contours of zonally-averaged U at day0, 100 & matured – check wiki notes; superimpose these solid-dashed contours on color –dU/dy; Following 4 slides

  17. Feb case du/dy superimposed by zonal averaged and smoothed u velocity, at day 0, 100 ,200, and 1080. The color is du/dy, contours are -10,-8,-6,-4,-2,0,1,2,10,20,30,40,50 in the unit of cm/s The figure, shown at the left, shows the movement of the extension of NEC according to the latitude where u(z=200)=-5.5 cm/s is in different month. The u velocity is smoothed with 5 points in this case. The results with 21 points-smoothed and without smoothing are shown at the last slide of this file. 5 pts and 21 pts smoothed plots are both shown in the following slides.
