  2. Saying No to Tobacco • The first line of defense is to be prepared for peer pressure • Choose friends that are tobacco free • Stay away from friends when they are smoking

  3. 12 Reasons To Be Tobacco Free • Healthier • Breath and smell better • Save money • Sense of taste and smell will be sharper • Fewer allergies • Not confined to smoking areas • More energy and stamina

  4. 12 Reasons To Be Tobacco Free • Skin healthier and look better • Hair and clothes will not smell like smoke • Not forcing others to breath smoke • Not have to lie to parents, teachers or friends • Not be breaking the law

Kicking the Habit • Make a list of reasons you want to quit • Set small goals – one day at a time • Avoid being with people who smoke • Change any habit linked to smoking – after meals, to relax, etc. • Exercise when you feel the urge to smoke • Think positively • Eat healthful snacks instead of reaching for tobacco

How Tobacco Effects the NON Smoker • Second hand Smoke – Air that has been contaminated by smokers smoke • Side stream Smoke – Smoke that comes from the burning tip of tobacco – It contains twice as much tar and nicotine • Mainstream smoke – Smoke that cthe smoker exhales • Long term exposure to second hand smoke poses that same risk of serious illness for passive smokers as smoking does for active smoker

Unborn Babies and Children • Women who smoke seriously endanger the health of the baby • Increased miscarriage, low birht weight • Lower the birth rate the more likely to have complications – SIDS • It effects children up to 11 years after their birth • Smoking mothers have twice the chance of SIDS compared to non-smokers
