Colorectal cancer is also known as bowel or colon cancer. It is formed in the rectum or colon. The colon or rectum is infected with polyps which are formed. These when detected early can be treated with various treatments like radiation and chemotherapy or surgery.

  1. Colorectal Cancer

  2. Colorectal cancer is also known as bowel or colon cancer. It is formed in the rectum or colon. The colon or rectum is infected with polyps which are formed. These when detected early can be treated with various treatments like radiation and chemotherapy or surgery. While there are numerous ways to avoid this disease there are certain risk factors that cannot be controlled. This is essentially formed in the GI or the gastrointestinal tract.

  3. The rectum helps in excretion of waste products from the body and hence people afflicted with this disease have a high risk factor. In case of bowel cancer the tissues in the colon are infected and polyps are formed. Though the polyps are removed via surgery and radiation, the risk of reoccurrence is always there. Cancer cells grow in an unrestricted way and hence it is important to detect it in the early stages.

Colorectal Cancer Symptoms Cancer is a progressive disease but with research and timely detection it is possible to provide treatment for the same • Drastic change in bowel habits • Blood in stools • Tiredness and exhaustion • Fever and chills • Pain during excretion • Cramps and strain in the colon area Age too is a factor here and men are more prone than women to get colon cancer.

  5. Cancer Screening • Blood works • Ultrasound processes • Biopsy • computed tomography or CT scan. The scan procedure is highlighted with the use of a contrast or a dye via intravenous procedure and the scan indicated if the tissues are spread in the other areas. Blood works peculiarly related to cancer testing is worked and a study of antigen or carcinoembryonic test is done to know the presence of cancer cells in the body. Once the biopsy confirms that the cells or tissues are malignant, further treatment can be started.

  8. Uncontrolled Risk Factors • Age especially people above 50 years of age • Certain races like Afro Americans are also prone to cancer • Passive smoking • Family history • Earlier radiation for treating colon cancer
