  2. ISTAG vision “Start creating an ambient intelligence landscape for seamless delivery of services and applications in Europe relying upon testbeds and open source software, develop user-friendliness, and develop and converge the networking infrastructure in Europe to world-class” • EBU’s response: Develop a Public broadcasters’ strategy • Encourage a ‘critical mass’ of service providers to support these objectives • Advance in steps using existing infrastructure • Invest heavily on improvements • Expected return: The audience must increase! EBU aims at pan-European systems and services Action lines: TTI Strategy Team / Annual TTI Forum and Eurotravel Conferences ITS 2000

  4. Requirements • Future needs of TTI service providers: • Delivering services with one or more higher bandwidth bearers, simultaneously • Generate messages once ... • Multi-modal travel services needed ... • Supply new services for sophisticated in-vehicle navigation systems … • Increased filtering for end-user needs … • Serve a wide range of radio receivers (Navigation systems, PDA’s, ….) ITS 2000

  5. Vision (1) • Be bearer independent (byte oriented) • Support language independent applications • Permit multi-modal TTI, covering all forms of travel information • Support a wide range of receiver/decoder types • As much compatibility as possible with the ALERT-C protocol ITS 2000

  6. Vision (2) • Use common forms of location referencing: • WGS 84 (Long, Lat) & Road-intersections (text) • The goal is that receiver/decoders may not need a location database in order to use information • Have powerful service and network features: • A TPEG stream may be a composite of services • Each service could be a mixture of free and paid/encrypted sub-services ITS 2000

  7. TPEG Specifications • B/TPEG is publishing open specifications in parts: • Part 1 - Introduction, Numbering and Versions • Part 2 - Syntax, Semantics and Framing Structure • Part 3 - Service and Network Information • Part 4 - Road Traffic Message Application www.ebu.ch/bmc_btpeg.htm ITS 2000
