  1. Cell Division • Enables organisms to repair damage, grow and produce offspring

  2. Daughter Cells • Offspring cells produced from mitosis

  3. Chromatin • Uncondensed version of chromosomes

  4. Chromosome • Condensed visible form of DNA

  5. Chromatid • One of the two identical copies of a chromosome that has been replicated. The pair is referred to as sister chromosomes.

  6. Centromere • Place where two chromatids are joined

  7. Mitosis • Process in which the nucleus divides to form two new nuclei

  8. Prophase • DNA condenses; chromosomes appear; nucleus disappears

  9. Metaphase • Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell

  10. Anaphase • Chromosomes separate

  11. Telophase • Cell has two nuclei; chromosomes disappear; nuclear membrane reappears

  12. Cytokinesis • Cell starts to pinch; division of the cytoplasm
