Background • Homeshare programs provide a service that facilitates a range of positive outcomes for participants and the community • Provides Householders with support to remain at home and companionship • Provides Homesharers with affordable accommodation and companionship • Provides assistance and peace of mind to Householder family members • Wesley Homeshare is a great example of a mature program, achieving excellent outcomes • An analysis of Wesley Homeshare was performed to identify a benchmark for the potential net benefits of a mature Homeshare program over a one-year period • Two key tools were utilised for this analysis – Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) and Social Return on Investment (SROI) – and these tools were supplemented by case studies to capture the qualitative benefits Results • A mature Homeshare program can be expected to provide cost savings of ~$281K p.a. to the federal government through savings to residential care alone • Also many other benefits to the government and community, including: savings to the hospital system (reduced admissions and length of stay); savings to respite care; savings in rent for homesharers; and improved happiness and quality of life to participants and their families • These benefits outweigh the cost of the program ~$120K p.a. • Full-potential net benefit of the program is expected to be ~$160K p.a., and 1-yr SROI of ~2.3
