  1. Your S7-1200 Strategy Integrating S7-1200 into your Product Lifecycle

  2. Integrating the S7-1200 into your Product Lifecycle • Lifecycle Management of Automation Equipment • Depends on demand for end products or automated process • Depends on technology innovations • Depends on the return on investment on your machine • Changes should be your decision based on your business! • When should you consider the S7-1200? • When it makes sense in your Product Lifecycle • To improve your processes • To improve your competitiveness • To improve your profitability • Does the S7-1200 make sense for you? • Can you benefit from the new S7-1200 innovations? • Does your application fit the current S7-1200 capabilities?

  3. Can you benefit from the new S7-1200 innovations? • New S7-1200 offers the following benefits over the S7-200 • Integrated PROFINET (Industrial Ethernet) • Reduces hardware costs • More functionality on the lower end modules • Not forced to buy more expensive controller for additional ports or analog • Reduces hardware costs • New I/O modules have stacked terminal blocks • Saves space in the cabinet • Reduces panel costs • Removable connectors for all hardware • Simplifies Maintenance • More built in functionality • Increased number of PID loops • Increased performance and available memory • High Precision Instructions (64-Bit Real) • STEP 7 Basic - Integrated Software Environment for Controller and HMI • Reduces development costs

  4. Integrating the S7-1200 into your Product Lifecycle • The S7-1200 product family will be launched in several phases • During each phase, more functionality/products will be added to the family. • It will take some time before the S7-1200 can realize all the application spaces that the S7-200 can accomplish today. • The S7-200 system family is an important part of our mainstream product range and the system will remain available as a mainstream product at least up to 2012. • If it is decided to phase out the S7-200 system, it will remain available as a replacement part and supported for 10 years following the phase out announcement.

  5. Does your application fit the current S7-1200 capabilities? • Overview: S7-1200 1st Release Limitations (in order of importance) • No AC-Inputs • No Text Display (TD) compatibility • No Temperature (RTD/Thermocouple) modules • No High-Density Analog I/O modules • No IT module (no e-mail, no std or configurable web server, no ftp) • No Profibus Slave, No ASi, No SIWAREX modules • No Retentive Data after a program edit/download(every download erases all data “Cold Start”) • No Bumpless Runtime Edits • No Data Logging or Recipes to/from a *.CSV file • No 10A isolated relay module • No High-Density 32-DI/32-DO/Rly discrete modules

  6. How can Siemens help? • Siemens will offer several tools to aid in S7-200/S7-1200 migrations • S7-200 to S7-1200 application code migration utility • This tool will be to convert existing S7-200 ladder logic (Oct ’09 – SP1) • S7-200 to S7-1200 Transition Reference Guide • What’s New; What’s Different; What’s Missing? • Application Engineering Support • Consulting support on when to migrate • Consulting support during actual migration • Solution Partner • Trained Solution Partners in your area to help support or perform migrations
