  3. Plot Jing-Mei mother wants her daughter to be a prodigy. Jing-Mei thinks her mother expects too much. Read to make inferences about each character’s motivation. Is Jing-Mei’s mother being unreasonable, or is this a typical parent/child clash. How much does culture have to do with the conflict?

  4. Assignment • Using the free write format we have been practicing, write a paragraph that explains either Jing-Mei or her mother’s motivation using examples from the text.
