  2. Youth Suicide Intervention and Prevention Plan The Plan is a policy-level document to provide the infrastructure to support suicide prevention and intervention in Oregon. 100 volunteer experts laid out 117 Action Items designed to: • Learn more about what is happening in hospitals, physician offices, with behavioral health providers, with peer and family supports statewide; • Make future recommendations on practices and protocols to facilitate best practices in suicide prevention, intervention and postvention in a variety of settings; • Form Oregon leadership to advance suicide prevention; • Empower communities and individuals to lead suicide prevention, intervention and postvention in their areas.

  3. CSAC History with the Plan: • Reviewed CSAC Action Items – September and October 2015 • Plan approved by CSAC – November 2015 • Agreed for OHA to report to CSAC at least annually on progress

  4. CSAC Action Item: • 9.4.a. By December 2017, OHA, in collaboration with CSAC, will work with behavioral and physical health providers, peers, prevention specialists, faith-based communities and suicide prevention advocates to identify and establish model guidelines for providing peer support for parents, family of choice and siblings of persons with suicidal ideation or who attempt suicide. OHA will identify or develop a guidebook to assist families, families of choice, friends and siblings of children/youth/young adults who are discharged from inpatient/residential behavioral or physical health care facilities and are at heightened risk of suicide.

  5. CSAC Action Item: • 8.4.d. By March 2017, OHA and the Children’s Services Advisory Committee will collaborate with peer-run organizations and other subject matter experts to identify opportunities and make recommendations to OHA for implementing the use of peer and family support services to children, youth or young adults, who are discharged from inpatient/residential behavioral or physical health care facilities and are at heightened risk of suicide.
