  10. Physical Education Waiver Two COMPLETED Seasons of: OHSAA Sponsored Sport Or Two COMPLETED Years of: Marching Band or AFJROTC You may not combine one PE course and one waiver. Sports may be combined or skipped years. Waivers will be automatically added to transcripts.

  11. Drop Policy • Students will now only be able to drop courses ONE time during their high school career without penalty after the first two weeks of the start of a course. A “W” indicating Withdrawal from the course will be entered on the transcript. This does not affect the GPA. • All courses dropped after this option is used, will result in an ‘F’ for the final grade. This will be entered on the transcript and will affect the GPA.

  13. GPA RankingGPA SCALE HAS CHANGED BEGINNING WITH THE CLASS OF 2014 Course grades are based on + / - scale. We will be using the following scale to compute GPA’s. AP Courses and College Credit Plus are weighted 1 point for grades C- or above.

  14. Weighted Grades • AP classes & CCP classes are weighted for grades of C- or higher. This means that an A = 5 pts. B = 4 pts. etc. for AP & CCP classes only • GPA’s can be over 4.0 • Valedictorian – Highest GPA in the Class & 3 AP courses • Salutatorian – 2nd Highest GPA in the Class & 2 AP courses • The following honors will be awarded at graduation using the 7th semester GPA: Cum Laude – 3.5 – 3.74 GPA Magna Cum Laude – 3.75 – 3.99 GPA Summa Cum Laude – 4.0+ GPA

New for 2017-2018 • Science: AP Physics C: Mechanics (Must be in Calculus or AP Calculus) • Music: Ensemble is now for Tenor & Bass voices and Chorale is for Soprano & Alto voices. • Art: Expressive Art and Art Appreciation, and Levels 1 – 4 of Ceramics, Drawing, Painting, 3D Design, Computer Graphics, Multimedia Art, Photography, and Printmaking now offered. • Information Technology: World of Technology, offered by DACC. • School of Business: New College Credit Plus Pathways and Microsoft Office credentials, offered by DACC.

VHS • VHS stands for Virtual High School • Available for enrichment opportunities • Courses are available to students who have a desire to learn elective curriculum that is not available here at Hayes. PowerSchool Registration • Fill out Course Selection Sheet • Enter requests into Power School portal • Online portal opens tomorrow! • Instructions for entering requests into PowerSchool are included in your student’s materials – can also be found on our website – extras available tonight! • Must be complete by day of scheduling (by their English teacher) for Upcoming 10th – 12th Graders.

  35. Dates to Remember • Any requests to change course selections must be submitted to your school counselor by August 15th at 3 PM. • Students may only make ONE request to change their schedule. (Multiple changes can be made in this one request.) • Students will only be able to change course requests to the alternate courses that are originally submitted to the counselor.

  36. Overview of Steps • Fill out Scheduling Request form • Go to PowerSchool account to add requests • Fill out any applications you need • Turn in applications by Feb 17th! • Students will meet with their counselor in February to finalize requests!

  37. Schedules • Will be available on PowerSchool in August • Back to School Days will also be in August • Students will able to have school pictures taken, pay fees, buy parking passes, and pick up a paper copy of their schedule • Seniors are required to have the meningitis vaccine prior to this date. Proof of the vaccine must be given to the nurse. They will NOT be able to pay fees, pick up schedules, or buy parking passes without proof of vaccination.

  38. College Credit Plus is an initiative by the Ohio Department of Education and Ohio Department of Higher Education to allow high school students to attain college credit up to 30 semester hours per school year tuition free at Ohio public institutions and a reduced cost at private institutions. Interested parents and students should remain for the College Credit Plus Information Night beginning at 7 PM to learn about how to qualify as well as benefits and risks.
