Homework for next class • Read: Gerard Manley Hopkins (pp. 1513-16): “God’s Grandeur” (p. 1516), “The Windhover” (p. 1518), “Pied Beauty” (p. 1518); Oscar Wilde (pp. 1686-87): “Impression du Matin” (pp. 1687-88), “The Harlot’s House” (pp. 1688-89), from De Profundis (pp. 1740-43) • Reading Response: Do one of the responses on Wilde / Hopkins • Quiz next class. It’s mainly on the poems covered in class last class and today (Tennyson, Arnold, Browning, and Rossetti), but know also the headnotes in NA. Know the titles of poems; given key quotes highlighted in class, you’ll need to name their author or the poem they come from. • Student Presentations Next Class: • Carrie Gendle--Gerard Manley Hopkins’ biography • Emily Sterner--Oscar Wilde’s biography -------------------------------------------------------------------------- • Essay #2 (on Frankenstein) will be due Thursday, April 4th. • Read the prompt and rubric, both posted online.
