  • Quelqu’un fait une expérience dans le laboratoire.

  • Quelque chose ne va pas.

    • Something is wrong.


Ne personne ne rien mean no one nothing
Ne…personne & ne…rien mean ne…queno one & nothing.

  • In the passé composé, rien goes afteravoir or être:

    Je n’ai rien vu.

    I didn’t see anything.

  • BUT, personne goes after the past participle:

    Je n’ai vu personne.

    I didn’t see anyone.


You can also use personne rien as the subject of a sentence with ne in front of the verb
You can also use ne…quepersonne & rien as the subject of a sentence, with ne in front of the verb:

  • Personnen’est venu et rienn’est arrivé.

    Nobody came and nothing happened.


Ne que means only
Ne…que means ne…queonly:

  • Put nein front of the verb and quebefore what you are limiting:

    Il n’a gagné quedeux compétitions.

    He only won two competitions.
