  9. Identify User Needs • Discussion meetings for user groups • WebCT, FirstClass, Surrey CMS users, etc. • Web-based Survey – opportunity for input • Faculty, researchers, student sample • Focus sessions • eLINC, CDE, LIDC, ACS, etc. • Interviews • GDBA, MOT, Co-op, LONCAPA, etc.

  10. Define Current SFU Learning Technology Context • Collate and summarize existing reports • Several good reports exist • Establish current “benchmarks” of eLearning usage and tools • Conduct survey if additional information is required

Review and Summarize Current Relevant Knowledge • Characterize LMS literature, reviews, etc. • Confer with other sites about their experience • Gather information about pedagogical utility/functional efficiency of various LMS and related tools solutions • Find out what process was used to select a specific LMS and what we might learn from that experience

Facilitate LMS and Related Tools Identification • LMS • Communication tools (not always in LMS) • Discussion tools (i.e. FirstClass) • Synchronous tools (i.e. vClass) • Peer to peer • Content development tools • HTML tools • Multimedia • Video, etc • Assessment tools • Research and evaluation tools

  13. Facilitate LMS and Related Tools Identification • Assist with establishing criteria for selection • Assist with short-listing • Liaise with purchasing department if needed • Arrange and conduct vendor presentations • Assist LMSSC with preparation of recommendation
