Introduction (1/1) IN/VALIDATING AUSTRALIAN DATA?

  • Part of the joint IGFS and IAG Inter-Commission Working Group 2 “Evaluation of Global Earth Gravity Models”

  • The tide-free releases of the PGM07A and EGM08 global geopotential models are compared to Australian data:

    • Land and marine gravity observations

    • The AUSGeoid98 regional gravimetric geoid model

    • Co-located GPS-levelling on the Australian Height Datum

    • Astrogeodetic deflections of the vertical

  • Objective: quality assessment of PGM07A and EGM08

Conclusions (1/1) IN/VALIDATING AUSTRALIAN DATA?

  • PGM07A and EGM08 fit all Australian data better than any other model previously tested

  • EGM08 slightly improves on PGM07A in the comparisons to GPS-levelling data

  • PGM07A and EGM08 confirm the already-known deficiencies in the Australian data (implicit validation)

  • True validation of PGM07A and EGM08 cannot be claimed

  • PGM07A and EGM08 are good models over Australia
