  2. Thesis Statement • “Emo’s” are portrayed by the media as a group of people who indulge in self-pity, hating their life, and being depressed all the time.

  3. What “emo” is • Being “emo”, like being a goth, started from “emo” music. • At first “Emo” music was just punk rock where the band would use their feelings as lyrics, which ended up being seen as depressing music about pain more than music about feeling other things such as joy, or happiness. • As time went on and this music was played more and more people had started to take “emo” as a lifestyle rather than a genre of music. At first being “emo” had only meant you were just emotional, and as more time passed it started being seen as it is today, being obsessed with death, sadness, and seeming/dressing more dark.

  4. “Emo” music • Some bands considered “emo” these days are: • Matchbook Romance • Moss Icon • City of Caterpillar • Rites of Spring • Poison the Well • The Rocket Summer • Tomorrow’s Last Hero • Senses Fail

  5. What we see “emo” as • After being “emo” became a lifestyle and started becoming more and more popular it started to grow into something more. It was no longer just a state of mind or genre of music anymore. Being “emo” was a way of dressing now too. • Dressing “emo” was seen as wearing your hair in different ways (there are too many different “emo” haircuts so the see pictures), having piercings (not only “emo’s” do this), wearing certain band T-shirts, and wear a lot of black, but unlike “goth’s” they also wear brighter colors with the black sometimes. As an example, “if you were wearing dark jeans and a black shirt, you might wear a bright crimson red tie and white jacket, with matching or contrasting accessories.” (http://www.luv-emo.com/emo-style.html) • “Emo’s” are also seen today by our community as people who cut themselves for various reasons, usually being some sort of depression.

  6. “Emo” Clothing • There are many different ways that “emo’s” dress, mostly because the point of being “emo” is to express your feelings even though people may think that just wearing black is how “emo” people dress, which is true in some but not all cases. • Since being “emo” is about expressing your feelings, usually what someone would wear is completely different from another’s style. Most of the time someone who is “emo” has some sort of marking on their clothing that has a personal value, or maybe even a certain article of clothing, there are many different ways one could dress.
