Background • £100m Attainment Scotland Fund – a funding initiative over 4 years (2015 – 2019) • Challenge Authorities - providing targeted support to seven local authorities – Glasgow, Dundee, North Ayrshire, West Dunbartonshire, Clackmannanshire, North Lanarkshire, Inverclyde • Schools Programme – working with 57 targeted primary schools in other areas of Scotland • Focus on closing attainment gap – Literacy, Numeracy and Health and Wellbeing • Bids submitted around June • Inverclyde’s bid agreed during summer holidays
Overview of Inverclyde’s bid • Families and Communities • Leadership and Workforce • Meeting Learning Needs • Nurture theme across all workstreams • Start small, think big! • 6 focus schools in Year 1 – Aileymill, All Saints, King’s Oak, Newark, St. Francis, St. Andrew’s • 3 more schools Year 2 • 3 more schools Year 3 • Sharing of good practice – measuring what is effective
Since then…. • Launch of Scottish Attainment Challenge at Beacon on August in-service • Posts advertised internally in August • Attainment Advisor started late August • Project Leader appointed early September • Coaching and Modelling Officers for Literacy, Numeracy and Nurture in post from 19/10/15 • Data officer started in October • Research assistant post- interviews tomorrow • 2 Nurture Teachers appointed • 4 Teaching posts – still being appointed • 6 Family Support Workers – allocated to schools
What has changed in schools…. • Coaching and Modelling Officers in classes • Leadership Course running (3 cohorts) • New resources – Numicon, Active Literacy, PAtHs, Literacy Toolbox • Pips information shared – alongside teachers’ judgements • Emphasis on gathering and using data • Nurture training has taken place • Family Support Workers are building relationships with families and school • Family Learning Club underway
What else has happened? • Advice and guidance from our Attainment Advisor • Case studies being developed • Linking the work of the Attainment Challenge with Raising Attainment for All and Early Years Collaborative • Sharing practice with other 6 authorities (and beyond)
Still to come…. • Training programme on learning and teaching • Five to Thrive training for large group of staff • Leadership course will be offered again • Sharing of effective practice • More schools becoming involved • Upscaling of some initiatives
