RAFT 1 • Role: Immigrant • Audience: Friend/family back home • Format: Letter • Time: 1890s-1900s in America • Requirements: • one push factor • one pull factor • Description of what life in America will be (what is your American Dream? Is there a job promised? Will you be rich? Will you get land? Example: Shannon and Joseph both had things to run away from in Ireland and hoped for freedom in America. Anzia and Clara needed to escape the Pogroms in Russia and the Ukraine)- write ¾ of a page.

RAFT 2 • Role: Immigrant (same character as your last RAFT) • Audience: Friend/family back home • Format: Letter • Time: 1890s-1900s in America Requirements: Write about what life is REALLY like for Immigrants in America- use your primary sources, evidence fromFar and Away, the PS images we looked at in class, and 18.4 in your textbook. Give 3-4 details about life in America. (you can do a series of letters if you would like). Write ¾ of a page.
