MAIN POINTS about EDUCATION FOR CITIZENSHIP • Pluralism is a superior value of Spanish Constitution and it must be respected in all legal regulations • Ideological neutrality is the duty of the State • Any kind of proselytism in educational system is forbidden • In a democracy a teacher is not a judge of moral questions

Year SECONDARY SCHOOL (1 hour/week) Procedures: Reasoning Discussing Critical analysis of mass media Learning to live together Attitudes: tolerance, negotiation, respect Civic and social competences: Skills for living in society Skills for active citizenhip Skills for reinforcing autonomy, self-esteem and self-control

ETICHAL AND CIVIC EDUCATION Aim: to achieve social and civic competence In coordination with EpC and Human Rights (2nd or 3rd year) Contents: Identity and community Human Rights and theories of ethics Ethics and Politics Social problems in modern society (globalization, conflicts, development…) Equality between men and women

PHILOSOPHY AND CITIZENSHIP 5th year BACHILLERATO (3 hours per week) Aims: to reflect on and to think critically about human nature, knowledge, language and society Ethical and political perspectives in teaching Philosophy My approach: Philosophy is not Education for Citizenship. Philosophy has its own history. It is not an “ancilla rei publicae”

MULTICULTURALISM towards INTERCULTURALITY • Problems with living together: how to harmonize cultural identity and social cohesion, different cultures and obedience to common law, human diversity and civic community. • It is necessary to find a new humanism in which all human beings can live with dignity, respect and positive tolerance
