Logging into ASPEN • Key sis into Internet Explorer • Username and password = same as your log-in (from home add cherokee\) • Security Preferences Updates – LATER • You will see a listing of all classes – Issues?   10. Student Tab • Columns are sortable • Click on column name • Provides demographic • Quick Status Alert: Bell gives schedule – current/next period • General attendance information • Breadcrumbs like Sharepoint – • Contacts – • Schedule

Attendance • Error message – date issue • Can also access from Pages tab • Sort by Schedule, then Term to put in order • Check Class – then Daily • Valid calendar – change date • Defaults to Present • Mark Absent or Tardy • Follow your administrators’ directions for taking attendance the first day

  13. Gradebook Tab • Set Preferences • General – AutoSave (numbers saved automatically) • Records per page?

  14. Gradebook Tab 2 • Home – what you want to see on your home page – accept defaults • Security – password cannot be changed

Gradebook Preferences • Consider: • Tab direction – across or down? • Enable gradebook features – yes! • Point values in header? • Category in header? • Publish statistics for every assignment for everyone? • Student alerts – medical, legal, etc.? • Anchor averages – student average can be locked on left side next to students’ name • Default weighting: Categories/Total Points

  16. Gradebook Preferences - 2 • Categories – hybrids • (handout) • Decimal – your preference • Grade scale – choose High School (set by county/cannot be changed)

Gradebook -- Categories • Options – Add – setting defaults for this category • Code – HW (five letters or less) • Description – Homework • Weight – same as Syllabus • Should all add to 100 • Grade scale • Entry Mode – numeric only • Max – 100 points • Extra credit allowed? Drop scores? Private?

  18. Categories continued • Can now add more categories • Can see all categories on left side bar • Next Class: (directional arrow on right) • Options: Import categories • Import from (first class) • Selected categories

  20. Adding Assignment/Scores • Code from categories • Unique Code – Test1 (10 ) • Name – more descriptive name • Is this an Extra Credit assignment? • Both dates – mandatory (+5) • Grade term – choose/search first time • Entry Mode, etc.

Does not show? • Grade Columns – All • Check Filters • Status – Enrolled and Withdrawn • Click on individual assignment to delete • Fill down value • Revert Current Cell - Undo • Then can import Assignments to other classes, if you teach more than one class • Go to next class – Check Filter • Options – Import Assignments

  22. Tools • Special Code • Not Handed In – NHI • Excused – E • Options – Add • Code • Exempt or Zero? • Report as missing? • Color code – (darker colors work better)?
