  3. Graduate KY:Summit Recap-Bowling Green BACKGROUND Date: November 21, 2009. Attendance: 125 individuals from the region. Hosts: Green River Educational Cooperative and Greenwood High School.

  4. Graduate KY:Summit Recap-Bowling Green Key Topics Focused broadly on the many reasons a student drops out of public education. Lack of engagement, family supports, and bullying in schools. The need for flexibility in dealing with the needs of students at risk of dropping out Need for strong community support of the students and schools is necessary for successful change.

  6. Graduate KY:Summit Recap-Murray BACKGROUND Date: February 18th, 2010 Attendance: 175 individuals from the region. Hosts: Murray State University, First Lady Jane Beshear, and Dr. Rhonda Dunn, the First Lady of Murray State.

  9. Graduate KY:Summit Recap-Richmond BACKGROUND Date: March 1st, 2010 Attendance: 230 individuals from the region. Hosts: Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond Chamber, South East South Central Co-Op, Center for Middle School Academic Achievement, Department for Juvenile Justice

Graduate KY:Summit Recap-Richmond Key Topics How to engage all facets of the community in mentoring young people; forming a barrier to dropout Strengthening the community and technical programs relationships with schools to give students options Listening to students more. Not assuming adults know why students are dropping out Raise standards for teachers and students

  15. Graduate KY:Summit Recap-Recommendations Early Childhood: • Starting Early – Focusing on early childhood literacy – (Richmond) • Schools from early childhood to post-secondary institutions should find ways to collaborate to cultivate appreciation for learning (Murray)
