  • £7.5M commitment OST+PPARC+CCLRC

    • £750k working margin (wm:10% attributed to UK tasks)

    • Oct’05: £720k for solenoid cryogenics

      • £287k over budget (despite guide price)

      • re-evaluated cooling budget;

        • freed £200k (but kept original c&wm : risk)

      • £90k call on contingency (plus £43k from wm)

      • Accepted by PPARC: funds drawn from OST

    • Done under change control (interim CMPB)

      • painful process

        • needed effort and caused delay!

    • Lesson learnt: danger of single response tenders

      • Cause: escalation of requirement over plan (negotiating)

      • Remedy: Shielding available on site at DL

  • Note: Achieved £50k saving on import of decay solenoid from PSI – kept within beam line budget.
