  1. Journey Through Literacies By: Natalie Ingram

  2. Then & Now • Before the class I expected to be overwhelmed with writing • I struggled to keep up with assigned readings • After writing many drafts I begin to gain more confidence in my writing • I don’t hate writing as much due to newly learned techniques.

  3. Literacy Memoir • Battle of the Books • Competition between other elementary schools within the county • Students participating were to read a list of books • Forced students to read, comprehend and retain the information • Literacy Sponsor – Dad • Taught me that education is the key to success • Bonded through reading • When I was younger, my dad would read books along with me at night

  4. “Why I Write” Writer’s Notebook Forum 8 - Revisited Part 2:I write because I have to, it's apart of the life of a student. I write to rid my mind of the thoughts that go unspoken. I write because I want to succeed. I write to gain a further understanding of writing. I write because I aspire to inspire. I write to communicate. I write to grow. • “I write to make peace with the things that I cannot control”. • I could relate because I think that in life you can’t control what happens, only how you react. • “I write knowing words will always fall short”. • I feel that words mean nothing, actions are what really matter.

  5. Free Write! • Choose two of the following • What was the most important thing that you will take away from this class? • Will you share what you have learned with anyone? • Discuss your attitude toward the class from the beginning to now. • What are you planning on doing over winter break? • What would you rather be doing?

  6. Final Reflection • Learned an effective writing process: • Brainstorm mentally • Write down key points • First Draft • Ask for someone’s input • Second Draft • Revise and polish • Final Draft

  7. Final Reflection • My attitude toward the class has changed from beginning to end • I have more confidence within my writing • I still don’t like to read • I have grown not only as a writer but also as a person from some assignments

  8. Thank you for your precious time!
