Unique Characteristics of Smart Card Data • Usually constructed with BINARY data • Host systems typically do not support binary data • The data is cryptographically generated • Not typically present in Host system • Smart card data generated via a secondary process • Record separated from 9000 file • Magnetic stripe data identified within record • Magnetic stripe data used to create smart card data • Cryptographically produced smart card data inserted into record • 9000 file with appended smart data is ready for output

EMV Smart Card Data Contents • Track 1 and Track 2 magnetic stripe data • Primary Account Number (PAN) • Cardholder name • Expiration date • Service code • Static risk data • Configured for the product • Each cardholder receives the same risk parameters • Cryptographic data • Keys • Typically 3 – 5 keys • Derived from issuer master keys

Typical EMV Data Preparation Options • Prepare EMV data at the Host level • Not a natural process for the Host system • Requires changes to the Host system • Prepare EMV data in additional production process • Typically with separate PC or Server in card issuance center • Typically via a BATCH process • Host data created as usual • Host data then sent to BATCH EMV data preparation PC or Server • Smart card data generated overnight prior to production
